William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on Star Trek, went to space for real recently. He said that the earth looked beautiful and fragile and urged us all to act now to protect it. Climate change is a big problem and I don’t know exactly what we should do. But, our country has done big things before. No one thought we could put a man on the moon until the scientists at NASA did it. There are scientists who can figure this out too. That’s why I support the federal government’s climate initiatives. We can do this. We have to.

Psalm 8:6-8 reminds us that caring for the Earth is an act of glorifying God. We do this in simple ways: planting a garden, turning off lights when we aren’t using them, and teaching our children to respect nature. As a steward for God’s creation, I have the responsibility to support our federal government’s efforts to protect the Earth.

I always loved spending time in my grandmother’s kitchen, I felt so safe with her. I want that for my grandkids too. Yesterday my granddaughter told me she’s scared by all the fires and floods and worried about the future. Climate change wasn’t something I ever worried about growing up and it’s honestly not something I want to think about now. I hate to imagine them suffering at all. I reassured my grandbaby, but I’m worried for her and her grandbabies. These kids need us to protect their future. It’s time for Congress to act to address climate change.

My mom taught me to clean up after myself and leave places better than I found them. It’s common courtesy and shows I care about others. I hate when people litter or leave dog poop because it shows they’re only thinking of themselves. Right now our planet’s like a neglected neighborhood where a few rich folks are dumping litter and destroying the streets we all use. It’s not fair we’re in this climate crisis, but the only way out is to work together and leave the planet better for future generations. That’s why I support federal action on climate change.

When the last hundred year flood hit our home it took us months to clean it all up, and we’re still fighting insurance to help cover the costs we had to pay out of pocket. Our emergency fund is dwindling while these hundred year floods are arriving annually. I’m putting the work in to protect my family and our home. I expect my elected leaders to work just as hard to bring climate solutions to our country. I know I’ll be thinking long and hard about what they’ve done to protect my family when I cast a vote next year.

Moved voters to agree that they expect their members of Congress to act on climate change
