Creator/Writer Melissa Samuels, Director/Editor Adam Parker, and producers Gutsy Media/Wake Up & Vote collaborated with Galvanize Action to develop the animated series The Littletons. Episodes use humor and our research, messaging, and voter understanding to address culture wars, as seen in this example, as well as abortion access, immigration, and democracy.

I know how to keep my kids safe, when they’re getting hangry, and when they need a hug. Our family isn’t always perfect, but then again no one is. At the end of the day, we care about each other. So when I hear about parents being told by our public officials that it’s not okay for our kids to be themselves it really hurts. Our public officials should be supporting our families, not judging us and spying on us. After all, we know our families best.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement: I trust classroom teachers in public schools to give our kids the best education possible.

My job as a Mom is to keep my kids safe, know when they’re getting hangry, and when they need a hug. That’s not the job of our public officials – I need them to butt out of things that don’t concern them. Like telling my kids what they can and can’t read or dictating who gets to play on which sports team. Our public officials should be supporting our families, not judging us. After all, we know our families best.

Who do you trust more to have the best interests of kids at heart, teachers or public officials?

MLK Jr told us to judge people on the content of their character, not the color of their skin. As someone who believes that everyone is equal and deserves respect, I wouldn’t judge anybody based on color. But that doesn’t mean turning a blind eye to racism or discrimination. That means understanding the different challenges we all experience and that learning should happen for all of us. That’s why I support schools talking about race and discrimination in an honest and unbiased way.

Our children are not responsible for the past, but they will be the architects of the future. By learning the lessons of history, they can build on our successes and avoid repeating mistakes. That’s why I support schools teaching a thorough, fair, and unbiased account of race and discrimination, so our kids can continue to make this country a more perfect union.

I’m a small business owner. So many employees are totally unprepared to succeed in a diverse workforce. They are good folks, they just have no idea how to deal honestly with race and it always seems to lead to conflict. There’s a school nearby that teaches students about race in a direct, unbiased manner. No blame, no shame. Just the facts and support for mutual understanding. Those kids are some of my best employees. They treat everyone with respect and build real relationships which helps with employee retention and customer service. I wish every employee had that school program.
