My father was an ironworker whose apprenticeship training gave him a good career that could support the whole family. It’s sad that so many of these jobs have been lost and that so many hard-working people I know can’t get the skills to work a good job without going into debt. I want to see the government invest in more training programs, like those in the infrastructure [Build Back Better] bill, that will help people earn a livable wage with dignity, just like my father.

I come from a military family. My grandpa and dad served, and I met my husband in the service. So valuing freedom and being proud Americans run really deep for us. My family has been honored to sacrifice so that Americans can have the freedom to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. At the core of that is ensuring our air and water are clean, and access to good jobs that support our families. Build Back Better guarantees all of this and more, which is why I support this bill. These are the foundations that make our country great.

Senator Joe Manchin is blocking a bill that would let working mothers stay home with their newborns for the first 4 weeks after birth. This is just common sense. Everyone knows moms need a little time to recover and babies do better when they have time to bond. It’s cruel and unfair of Manchin to block the bill. Do you think his wife had to go back to work the day after the birth of his three kids? All hard-working Americans deserve paid family leave, not just politicians and rich people at big corporations.

If you don’t work, you don’t get paid, my manager said. Quitting was a tough decision, but my son’s cancer’s gotten worse, and he needs me at home. I was a waitress for five years. I always arrived on time, worked hard, and treated customers with respect. It’s not like I wanted paid time off for fun. My sister got six weeks paid maternity leave after her baby. She works for a big corporation, but it doesn’t seem fair I can’t also have financial security while caring for my family. That’s why I expect Congress to pass paid family leave.

My son served four years in the army and sacrificed for our country. After his last deployment, he was diagnosed with cancer. He now relies on me for help with doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, even making sure he’s taking medication on time. But I can’t keep taking unpaid leave or I won’t be able to pay my bills. Soon I’m going to have to choose between my job and my son. We symbolically honor veterans on Veterans Day, but when it comes to supporting military families, we’re on our own. That’s why I pray Congress passes paid family leave.

With costs rising, I’m making hard choices. Especially at the grocery store where I look at my cart and figure out what can stay and what can go. Do I put back the milk and cereal? No, kids need those. The bacon? No, Wayne’s a bacon and eggs guy. Maybe the hamburger which used to be reasonable but not anymore? Then I see Kroger just had record profits and their CEO goes, “A little bit of inflation is always good for our business.” We need to elect leaders who go after these companies when they price gouge us like that.”

Moved voters to agree that politicians who refuse to bring down the cost of prescription drugs won’t get my vote

My dad always said “If you’re gonna do it, do it right.” He valued a job well done, and I’m proud I passed his strong work ethic to my sons. While some kids think the world owes them something, my boys work hard without complaint. It kills me that the jobs left in our town don’t pay fair wages or offer benefits. My boys work long hours and still barely support their families. I want a better future for their kids. That’s why I’m supporting the infrastructure bill and the jobs it will bring to towns like ours.
